Zenaida “Nedy” Tantoco, the esteemed chairperson and CEO of Rustan’s, has left an indelible mark on the world, passing away at the age of 77. Her granddaughter, Nikki Huang, paid tribute to her on Instagram, celebrating Tantoco as a queen, a real-life fairy godmother, and now, a guardian angel. Huang, who is part of the Rustan’s merchandising team, expressed her deep love and eternal miss for her Lola.
Nedy Tantoco’s death on the evening of February 8 marks the end of a remarkable era for Rustan’s, a beacon of luxury retail in the Philippines that was founded by her parents, Ambassador Bienvenido Tantoco, Sr. and Gliceria Rustia-Tantoco, in 1952. As the couple’s eldest daughter, Nedy not only upheld but also expanded the legacy of excellence her parents initiated, steering Rustan’s to new heights in the luxury retail sector.
Tantoco’s professional journey was characterized by her sharp business acumen and visionary leadership. However, those who knew her closely will remember her for the warmth and nurturing spirit she brought to both her family and the broader Rustan’s community. Her contributions went beyond the confines of business, fostering a culture of family empowerment and unity that resonated with employees and partners alike.
The Tantoco family has announced that funeral services for Nedy Tantoco will be held from February 10 to 12 at Forbes Park in Makati, with additional services in Taguig City on February 13 and 14. A funeral mass is scheduled for February 16 at the Santuario de San Antonio Parish, also in Forbes Park, Makati, offering a moment for all who were touched by her life to pay their respects and celebrate her legacy.
Nedy Tantoco’s passing is not just the loss of a business icon but the departure of a matriarch who embodied the essence of grace, leadership, and familial devotion. Her legacy, cemented in the foundations of Rustan’s and in the hearts of those she inspired, will continue to influence and guide the path of luxury retail in the Philippines for generations to come.
