Five dams in Luzon have opened their gates to release water as Severe Tropical Storm Kristine continues to bring heavy rainfall, according to the state weather bureau PAGASA.
As of 8 a.m. on Thursday, the following dams have released water:
- Binga Dam (Benguet): Two gates are open at 1.00 meter, releasing 116.44 cubic meters per second (CMS) of water. Its reservoir water level (RWL) is 570.83 meters, down from 573.00 meters, with a normal high water level (NHWL) of 575 meters.
- Ambuklao Dam (Benguet): One gate is open at 0.50 meters, releasing 73.77 CMS. The RWL stands at 749.20 meters, with a NHWL of 752 meters.
- Magat Dam (Ifugao and Isabela): One gate is open at 2.00 meters, releasing 300.00 CMS. The RWL is 182.81 meters, close to its NHWL of 193 meters.
- San Roque Dam (Pangasinan): One gate is open at 0.50 meters, releasing 53.90 CMS. Its RWL decreased slightly to 275.79 meters from 275.98 meters, with a NHWL of 280 meters.
- Ipo Dam (Bulacan): One gate is open at 0.30 meters, releasing 47.90 CMS. The RWL is 100.79 meters, near its NHWL of 101.10 meters.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. previously ordered agencies to closely monitor dams and ensure a gradual release of water to minimize the risk of downstream flooding.
As of 8 a.m., 16 areas in Luzon remain under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3, with 20 fatalities reported in the Bicol Region due to the storm.
