MANILA, Philippines – The five (5) suspects in the alleged hazing of a college student last December 2022 have already identified by the Cebu City police.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Maria Theresa Macatangay, Cebu City Police Office information officer, clarified that the suspects were members of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity.
According to her, the CCPO already have witnesses who will release their statements related to the incident.
She also said that they will check if the statements to be released would testify the alleged initiation rites.
The said alleged hazing incident resulted to the death of a second-year University of Cebu – Maritime Education and Training Center engineering student, Ronnel Baguio.
Baguio, 20 years old, passed away on December 19 after over a week after the alleged welcome rites.
This afternoon, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will join to investigate the Baguio’s death.
According to NBI, the victim’s death certificate indicated ““severe acute respiratory distress syndrome secondary to indirect lung injury and acute kidney injury secondary to rhabdomyolysis” as the cause.
His mother, Leny Baguio, said that the victim complained of his stomach pain, headaches and vomiting with blood.
“Sabay po ‘yung naging instruction ni SOJ (Secretary of Justice Jesus Crispin Remulla) to conduct an investigation with regards to the Cebu incident and the incident here in Manila,” Department of Justice Assistant Secretary Mico Clavano IV said.
