Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. stated that it is up to the current Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Police General Rommel Marbil, to respond to accusations involving a former PNP head allegedly aiding the escape of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo from the country.

In a Senate ambush interview, Abalos remarked, “I don’t know about this issue concerning the chief PNP. Let the PNP chief address this.” He added that actions are likely being taken in response to the allegations.

During a Senate hearing earlier, PAGCOR Senior Vice President Raul Villanueva, a retired general and ex-commander of the Intelligence Services of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP), revealed intelligence reports suggesting that a former PNP chief may have been involved in Guo’s escape and could be on her “monthly payroll.”

This claim raised concerns among some former PNP chiefs, with Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, a former PNP chief himself, noting that the statement was “very sweeping.”
