Winter, a member of the popular K-pop group Aespa, is currently recuperating after undergoing surgery for a collapsed lung, officially known as pneumothorax. The procedure was described as a preventive measure by her management company, SM Entertainment, to address the potential recurrence of the condition.

The agency, in a statement to Newsen and translated by Soompi, emphasized the careful consideration that went into the decision, stating, “As [pneumothorax] is a condition prone to recurrence, [the surgery] was carried out as a preventive measure in accordance with her doctor’s opinion, and the decision was made after plenty of discussion.”

Pneumothorax occurs when air leaks into the space between the lung and the chest wall, causing the lung to collapse, which can lead to severe and immediate effects on breathing and health.

SM Entertainment assured fans that Winter’s health and recovery are their highest priorities and that her future engagements and schedule will be adjusted accordingly to ensure her full recovery.

Winter debuted with Aespa in 2020, and the group has quickly risen to fame with hits like “Black Mamba” and “Next Level.” The news of her surgery has concerned fans around the world, who are sending well-wishes for a speedy recovery.
