The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is verifying the identities of military personnel seen accompanying Davao City Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte in a viral video showing a bar altercation. AFP spokesperson Col. Xerxes Trinidad confirmed Duterte has official security clearance during the election period but said an internal investigation is underway to confirm the legitimacy of those present in the footage.
Meanwhile, PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil revealed two police officers and two soldiers appeared in the video, noting that the officers were not authorized to serve as Duterte’s security and were allegedly “moonlighting.” The officers and their superiors face dismissal.
Trinidad emphasized the AFP’s commitment to legality and discipline, assuring full cooperation with ongoing investigations. The incident, which occurred in February, also led to a criminal complaint against Duterte for alleged physical assault and threats. Duterte has yet to respond publicly but addressed Davaoeños on social media, urging them to decide for themselves who to vote for in the next election.
