Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala punched her ticket to the main draw of the Nottingham Open after a hard-fought win over Romania’s Anca Todoni on Sunday. Eala triumphed in three sets, 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3, in a two-hour and 19-minute battle during the tournament’s qualifying round in England.
The 19-year-old, currently ranked 77th in the WTA standings, built on her earlier first-round win over Varvara Gracheva to take down world no. 87 Todoni and advance in the prestigious grass-court event.
The schedule and order of play for the Nottingham Open main draw are still to be announced.
