Filipino tennis star Alex Eala is just one match away from securing a spot in the US Open main draw after advancing to the third round of the Grand Slam qualifiers on Thursday (Philippine time).

Eala, currently ranked World No. 148, claimed a hard-fought victory over Spain’s World No. 99, Nuria Parrizas Diaz, with a score of 7-5, 7-5.

Before the match, Eala expressed her gratitude to supporters following her first-round win against Australia’s Maddison Inglis, where she triumphed 6-3, 2-6, 6-1. “I rarely get to play in this kind of atmosphere. I feel so lucky to experience the support of Filipinos here in New York,” she shared on social media.

Eala is set to face Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse, ranked World No. 123, in the third round on Friday (Philippine time).
