Rising Filipino tennis star Alex Eala is poised to make history as the first Filipina to break into the top 60 of the WTA rankings following her impressive performance at the Eastbourne Open.

According to Tennis 365, Eala’s semifinal victory over Varvara Gracheva has elevated her to No. 56 in the WTA live rankings. Currently ranked No. 74, the 20-year-old is expected to officially enter the top 60 when rankings are updated on Monday.

Eala’s climb could go even higher. If she wins the Eastbourne Open—her first WTA 250 tournament final—she could reach as high as No. 52.

She is set to face Australia’s Maya Joint in the championship match on Saturday night.

The WTA bases player rankings on performances across a maximum of 18 singles tournaments. The deeper a player advances in a tournament, the more points they earn. A WTA 250 title, like Eastbourne, grants the champion 250 points.

This Eastbourne campaign continues Eala’s strong 2025 season, where she’s already made waves after upsetting top-ranked opponents in earlier tournaments.
