U.S. President Donald Trump expressed confidence on Friday that he can resolve tensions with North Korea, saying, “I’ll get the conflict solved,” during a White House event focused on international diplomacy.
When asked about reports that he had recently sent a letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Trump avoided a direct answer but praised his relationship with Kim. “I’ve always had a great relationship with Kim Jong Un,” Trump said. “So we’ll see what happens. Somebody’s saying there’s a potential conflict — I think we’ll work it out. If there is, it wouldn’t involve us.”
According to NK News, North Korea’s UN delegation has reportedly refused to accept a recent letter from Trump. The White House, while confirming its openness to future dialogue, has not verified whether a new letter was actually sent.
Trump and Kim previously held three high-profile summits during Trump’s first term, though negotiations stalled over demands for North Korea to dismantle its nuclear arsenal. Since then, Pyongyang has continued expanding its nuclear and missile capabilities and has aligned closely with Russia, providing military support to Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
Despite these developments, Trump maintains he can rekindle diplomacy. However, North Korea has shown no signs of interest in returning to negotiations.
