Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala pulled off the biggest win of her career by toppling world No. 2 Iga Swiatek, 6-2, 7-5, in a stunning quarterfinal victory at the 2025 Miami Open on Thursday (PH time).

Eala, visibly emotional after the match, said she was in disbelief over the result. This victory marked her third straight win over a Grand Slam champion in the tournament. Before Swiatek, she took down 2017 French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko in the Round of 64 and 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys in the Round of 32.

The 19-year-old’s dream run has captivated tennis fans, and she could face another major test in the semifinals if former US Open champ Emma Raducanu advances past Jessica Pegula—who was a finalist at the 2024 US Open.

This landmark win further solidifies Eala’s status as one of the brightest rising stars in international tennis.
