Veteran actress Angel Aquino is set to join the hit primetime series FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, reuniting with lead star and director Coco Martin.
Speaking at a recent event for the Philippine Heart Association, Aquino expressed her excitement about working with Martin again, recalling their experience on Ang Probinsyano, where actors performed without a fixed script.
“In ‘Probinsyano,’ we didn’t have a script. We were all there because Coco didn’t know who he would need,” she shared. In Batang Quiapo, she will portray a social climber— a role she is eager to bring to life.
“It keeps us on our toes and really challenges our mental, physical, and emotional capacity,” Aquino added.
Young Actor Sparks Controversy
Meanwhile, a rising young star is making waves for the wrong reasons after reportedly ignoring a veteran showbiz reporter during a media conference.
According to insiders, the actor—who has a background in singing, dancing, and acting—refused a one-on-one interview with the reporter but willingly spoke to another media representative.
The incident has sparked criticism, with some noting that the actor, along with his handler, still has much to learn about PR and media relations.
TV Remains Strong Amid Digital Shift
Despite the rise of digital streaming, traditional television remains a staple in Filipino households. Studies show that 75% of Filipino homes still own a TV, with 92.9 million individuals watching regularly.
The industry is also evolving, with collaborations between rival networks like ABS-CBN and GMA-7. A prime example is Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition, set to air on GMA, featuring talents from both networks.
Additionally, the 38th PMPC Star Awards for Television is set for March 23, 2025, recognizing over 50 categories—an expansion reflecting the industry’s digital transformation.
