President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has proclaimed April 22, 2025 as a Day of National Mourning in honor of the late National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, Nora Aunor.

Proclamation No. 870, signed on April 21, acknowledges the profound loss the country faces with the passing of Aunor, whose artistry made a lasting impact on Philippine cinema, television, and music.

The document highlights Aunor’s unparalleled contributions, stating that her dedication to her craft elevated the standards of artistic excellence and inspired countless actors, filmmakers, and fans both locally and internationally.

“The nation mourns and stands with the family and friends of National Artist Nora Cabaltera Villamayor,” the proclamation read.

To honor her memory, all government offices and institutions across the Philippines and abroad are directed to fly the national flag at half-mast from sunrise to sunset on April 22.

President Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos also paid their respects during Nora’s wake at Heritage Park in Taguig City.

Nora Aunor, lovingly known as the “Superstar,” died on April 16 due to acute respiratory failure. She was 71.
