Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa is eyeing a trip to The Hague to visit former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently in the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Dela Rosa said he plans to apply for a Schengen visa with hopes of making the trip before or after the May 2025 elections—regardless of the outcome.

“I’ll try to get a visa. If I’m granted one, I hope to visit him—either before or after the elections, win or lose,” he shared.

When asked if he’s concerned about being arrested during the visit, the senator shrugged it off: “It’s fine if they detain me there.”

In jest, he added, “I’ll wear a wig in The Hague so they won’t recognize me.”

Dela Rosa, previously the Philippine National Police chief during Duterte’s controversial war on drugs, has referred to himself as the ICC’s “number two accused.” While he once said he would voluntarily surrender if a warrant were issued, he later hinted at possibly going into hiding.

Duterte was recently taken into ICC custody after Philippine authorities served the international warrant of arrest.
