The Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Port District of Clark has intercepted P17.169 million worth of high-grade “kush” marijuana concealed within two one-seater sofas. The shipment, which arrived on August 6, 2024, was flagged for inspection after BOC’s X-ray Inspection Project (XIP) detected unusual images.

Following a K-9 sniff test, which confirmed the presence of illegal substances, authorities conducted a physical inspection and discovered approximately 10.5 kilos of marijuana, packed in 23 self-sealing transparent plastic sachets.

The operation was a joint effort involving the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEG), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Pampanga District Office, the Department of Justice (DOJ), and local barangay officials of Dau.

The seized marijuana was confirmed as a dangerous drug under Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. A Warrant of Seizure and Detention was issued for the shipment, citing violations of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) in relation to R.A. No. 9165.

BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio reiterated the agency’s commitment to preventing smuggling and safeguarding the nation from illegal drugs.
