A Chinese national was detained in Parañaque City for allegedly running a home-based cryptocurrency investment scam, authorities confirmed. His arrest follows a coordinated operation by the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU), the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-NCR) and the Department of Justice Office of Cybercrime.
The suspect, 41-year-old Liu Feng, was arrested inside a condominium unit on Diosdado Macapagal Blvd., Barangay Tambo. Investigators found workstations and other equipment they suspect were being used to facilitate the scam.
BI officials stated Liu was overstaying in the Philippines—he last applied for a visa extension in October 2024—and was working without proper authorization. He will face deportation proceedings and is now undergoing deeper investigation and criminal inquiry.
Authorities said that another Chinese national, believed to be the original target of their investigation, was operating the core of the scam together with others, further suggesting a larger network may be involved.
