MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) confirmed it successfully thwarted hacking attempts on its official website and online voting system for overseas Filipinos.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia praised the cybersecurity team for their efforts in preventing any breach, revealing that over 60,000 hacking attempts targeted the Overseas Voting System. Additionally, 1.18 million suspicious traffic requests were blocked automatically due to poor cyber reputation, with 71,780 of them flagged as malicious IP addresses.

Garcia emphasized that Comelec has 24/7 monitoring, proactive cyber defense measures, and cutting-edge technology in place to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

“We’re working closely with relevant agencies to ensure all systems are protected,” he said.

The national elections are scheduled for May 12, 2025.
