The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is moving forward with full preparations for the first-ever parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), scheduled for October 13, 2025.
Comelec Chair George Garcia emphasized on Friday that the commission continues its groundwork despite uncertainty about whether the elections might be postponed. “We are continuously preparing for the BARMM elections. As far as Comelec is concerned, it’s pushing through—but the final decision to delay or proceed is not ours,” he told GMA News Online.
Comelec Resolution No. 11149 outlines the official election timeline. The election period will run from August 14 to October 28, during which a gun ban will be enforced. The campaign period is set from August 28 to October 11, while campaigning will be strictly prohibited starting October 12 until election day. A liquor ban will also be in effect during these two days.
All candidates must file their Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) by November 12.
The election, originally set for May 2022, was first moved to May 2025 under Republic Act 11593 and later rescheduled to October 2025 by a law signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who certified the postponement bill as urgent.
