The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has recovered more than 20 additional sacks of suspected shabu off the coast of Pangasinan, just a week after a massive drug haul worth ₱1.17 billion was seized in the same area. This brings the total number of sacks confiscated to 28.
According to a statement from the Coast Guard District Northwestern Luzon, the latest recovery was made possible through ongoing maritime patrols and prompt reports from local fishermen.
“These community reports have been crucial in turning over these illegal substances safely,” the statement noted.
The operations were carried out between June 5 and 6, and authorities have since ramped up coastal security and community outreach efforts.
Captain Mark Larsen Mariano, Commander of PCG Northwestern Luzon, reminded the public that handling or hiding suspicious packages can lead to criminal charges. He encouraged residents and fishers to immediately report any unusual finds to the nearest Coast Guard unit.
The investigation is still underway to identify the source and intended recipients of the illegal drugs.
