Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone believes that young guard Juan Gomez de Liaño has what it takes to contribute significantly to the national team’s long-term plans.

Cone praised Gomez de Liaño’s basketball intelligence and his ability to read the game — especially in pick‑and‑roll situations. According to him, the Converge rookie brings a different dimension to the team: he’s more offensively oriented than some of Gilas’ other guards, combining scoring, passing, and effective ball handling.

But it’s not just offense. Cone also noted that Gomez de Liaño is a very willing defender. He trusts that Juan’s defensive instincts and offensive skills make him a well-rounded addition.

Cone clarified that while Gomez de Liaño has been invited to Gilas’ training pool, he’s not guaranteed a spot in the final 12-man roster. Still, the coach emphasized that the staff has long had him in mind — especially for his potential as a scorer, playmaker, and pick‑and‑roll threat.
