A container van fell on its side after detaching from its truck along Anda Circle in Manila, leading to heavy traffic congestion that lasted throughout Tuesday. The incident happened when the truck driver, Edwin Pusag, swerved to avoid a motorcycle that had collided with his bumper.
“My wheel struck a huge rock, causing the container to fall,” Pusag explained in a report by Sandra Aguinaldo on 24 Oras. The container van fell sideways and hit another truck, exacerbating the traffic buildup along the busy roadway.
The Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) noted that the container’s detachment might have been prevented if the pin lock had been properly secured. “The main pin was not locked,” said MTPB supervisor Ronald Allan Zabat, adding that the failure to secure it properly is the driver’s responsibility and may result in a charge of reckless driving.
To remove the container, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) dispatched crane trucks, as the container weighed 24 tons. The van was finally reattached to its truck by 5:56 p.m., restoring traffic flow in the area.
