Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III has been appointed as the new Director of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), effective September 25, 2024. Torre confirmed the news to reporters on Tuesday night.

He will succeed Major General Leo Francisco as CIDG chief. Prior to this role, Torre served as the Regional Director of Police Regional Office 11 in the Davao region, where he led high-profile operations, including the recent arrest of televangelist Apollo Quiboloy.

Torre also previously headed the Quezon City Police District but resigned in August 2023 following public criticism for a controversial press conference involving a dismissed policeman.
