The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has incinerated illegal drugs valued at P9,102,467,185 at the Integrated Waste Management, Inc. (IWMI) facility in Trece Martires City, Cavite.

Details of the Destruction

PDEA reported that the destroyed contraband amounted to 2,435,619 grams of various dangerous drugs, which were evidence from numerous law enforcement operations and were no longer required for court proceedings. The drugs were destroyed via thermal decomposition or thermolysis, exposing them to temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees centigrade, ensuring complete decomposition and making reconstitution impossible.

Types of Drugs Destroyed

The majority of the destroyed substances included shabu (methamphetamine), marijuana, and ephedrine. Among the items burned were 1.2 tons of shabu seized during an April 15 checkpoint operation in Alitagtag, Batangas.

Swift Destruction Policy

PDEA emphasized its commitment to the rapid destruction of confiscated drug evidence once authorized by the courts, reinforcing its stance on preventing the proliferation of illegal drugs.
