The police chief of Porac, Pampanga, has been relieved from his position amid ongoing investigations into the alleged “scam farm” operating within a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub that was raided earlier this week, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Investigation and Accountability
PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo announced that the PNP would investigate how the Porac police force failed to detect the illegal operations at the POGO hub. Additionally, the PNP will scrutinize the municipal government’s role in allowing the POGO hub to operate without a permit since 2023.
Raid and Rescue Operation
On Tuesday, authorities executed a search warrant at the POGO hub following complaints of alleged human trafficking within the 10-hectare facility. The hub was reportedly involved in multiple criminal activities, including human trafficking, sex trafficking, torture, kidnapping, and scamming.
During the operation, 158 foreign nationals, primarily Chinese, were rescued. However, several individuals managed to escape after receiving early warnings about the impending raid.
Previous Raids and Actions
Earlier, all personnel from the Bamban Municipal Police Station in Tarlac were also removed from their posts following a similar raid at a local POGO hub, which revealed evidence of various illegal activities.
The PNP’s actions underscore their commitment to addressing the illicit activities associated with POGO hubs and ensuring accountability within local law enforcement and municipal authorities.
