Dina Bonnevie may be known as a disciplinarian, but when it comes to her grandchildren, she leaves the parenting to her children, Danica and Oyo Boy Sotto. In a recent interview with GMA News Online, the veteran actress shared that while she may step in to reprimand her grandkids when necessary, she refrains from interfering in how her children choose to discipline their own kids.
“I’ll say, ‘Stop that. That’s not right,’” Dina explained, but if the situation escalates, she turns to her son, Oyo, saying, “Oyo, kausapin mo ‘tong anak mo (talk to your child).”
Dina respects her children’s parenting styles, especially since Oyo’s approach mirrors her own. “Oyo is not a spoiler. If there’s a real wrongdoing, he will discipline them,” she said.
Reflecting on her upbringing, Dina mentioned that she experienced corporal punishment, but acknowledged that parenting methods have evolved. “I grew up with spankings and kneeling on mung beans, but now it’s different. They say you should talk to your child first, then explain why if you’re going to spank them,” she added.
Dina is a grandmother to nine grandchildren: six from Oyo and his wife Kristine Hermosa, and three from Danica and her husband Marc Pingris.
