Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has declared an “all-out war” against violence, discrimination, and injustice targeting women. Speaking on Monday, Remulla pledged to pursue perpetrators to the fullest extent of the law and reaffirmed the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) commitment to protecting women’s rights.

This announcement coincided with the launch of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), which will run from November 25 to December 12. The initiative emphasizes the government’s dedication to combating gender-based violence through awareness and support for survivors.

“I urge everyone here today to empower VAW survivors by sharing information about the government’s support services and resources, reminding them they are never alone in this fight,” stated Remulla, through a speech read by Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Felix Ty. He also warned perpetrators, saying, “We will go after every single one of you.”

This campaign aligns with Republic Act 10398, which designates November 25 as the “National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of VAWC.” The law mandates government agencies to promote awareness and actions against violence towards women and children.

Statistics on Violence Against Women

A 2022 study by the Philippine Statistics Authority revealed that 17.5% of Filipino women aged 15 to 49 had experienced physical, sexual, or emotional violence from their partners, underscoring the urgent need for action.
