The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has issued a travel advisory for motorists to seek alternative routes due to the closure of certain lanes on EDSA for the commemoration of the People Power Revolution anniversary on Sunday. This announcement comes as preparations are underway to celebrate the historic event that played a pivotal role in Philippine history.
A special traffic arrangement will be introduced starting midnight, with a zipper lane set up near the People Power Monument to facilitate a scheduled mini-concert and other activities. MMDA Traffic Enforcement Group Director, Atty. Victor Nuñez, highlighted the significance of the event and the expected traffic modifications, particularly around the White Plains area leading onto EDSA.
In coordination with the celebration, the Philippine National Police has announced the deployment of approximately 8,500 officers to oversee the security arrangements for rallies planned in the National Capital Region and Cebu, marking the 38th anniversary of the bloodless revolution that ousted the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and led to Corazon Aquino’s presidency.
Organizers have been requested by the MMDA to limit their activities to a single lane to minimize traffic disruptions. The advisory also notes that the MMDA will be operating at full capacity, especially given the coinciding Gilas Pilipinas game at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City, to ensure public safety and manage traffic flow effectively during these significant events.
Motorists and the public are advised to stay informed about traffic updates and plan their routes accordingly to avoid inconvenience during the People Power Revolution anniversary celebrations.
