Eduardo Año will remain as National Security Adviser under President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Malacañang confirmed on Tuesday.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro stated that despite ongoing health challenges dating back to the pandemic, President Marcos supports Año’s continued service.
“The President said Secretary Año has faced health issues since the pandemic, but he has graciously agreed to stay on at the NSC,” Castro noted. “The President believes he can still perform his duties well.”
Castro added that Año will continue in his role for as long as his health allows.
Año has had a series of health setbacks, testing positive for COVID-19 in March and August 2020, and again in January 2022. He also took a three-month medical leave on his doctors’ recommendation.
