Filipino pole vaulter and Olympian EJ Obiena finished seventh at the Xiamen leg of the Diamond League on Saturday, held at the Xiamen Egret Stadium.

Obiena cleared 5.62 meters on his second attempt but struggled to surpass the 5.72-meter mark after three tries.

Swedish world champion Mondo Duplantis secured the gold after clearing 5.92 meters. Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis and the Netherlands’ Menno Vloon both recorded 5.82 meters, with Karalis clinching second place through countback.

Currently ranked world no. 4, Obiena recently returned to the Philippines for several engagements before resuming preparations for his Diamond League campaign. Just last month, he topped the Taiwan International Pole Vault Championship.

Despite the result, Obiena remains a strong contender as he continues his road to future international competitions.
