MANILA – Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile took to Facebook on Tuesday night to call out the “irony” of individuals who allegedly committed violent acts of injustice now seeking justice for themselves.

Without naming names, Enrile’s post came shortly after former President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested under a warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity in connection with his war on drugs.

Enrile’s Facebook Post

“What a pathetic and ghastly irony! Those who allegedly committed unwarranted and violent acts of injustice are now drowning and gasping for justice,” the post read.

He also criticized those organizing national prayer rallies in support of Duterte, referencing the ex-president’s past comments calling God “stupid.”

Duterte’s Legal Battle

Duterte’s legal team argues that his arrest lacked due process, claiming he was kidnapped and taken to The Hague. His lawyers are expected to challenge the ICC’s jurisdiction over the case.

Meanwhile, Enrile further wrote:
“They now claw for whatever support and sympathy they could muster to extricate themselves from a tight legal trap that they themselves dug… Karma!! Abracadabra!! What a tragic miscalculation!!!”
