Eva Darren fondly reminisced about her past romance with the late screen veteran Paquito Diaz, who fathered her eldest son, Dr. Fernando de la Peña. During an interview with entertainment journalist Aster Amoyo on “TicTALK,” Darren shared insights into their relationship and its impact on their family.
Reflecting on her son’s bond with his half-siblings, Darren noted, “They get along well. Whenever Joko Diaz is in the States, he visits his older brother. Even when Paquito was alive, he would visit him too.”
Despite their close relationship, Darren revealed she turned down Diaz’s marriage proposal, sensing he wasn’t ready for such a commitment. “He asked me to marry him, but I didn’t want to because I saw he wasn’t ready to have a family with me,” she explained.
Darren also mentioned her lack of contact with Diaz’s wife, Nena Gutierrez Diaz, but acknowledged that both were aware of each other’s significance in Paquito’s life. “Nena and I haven’t talked, but she knows who I am, and I know who she is,” she stated.
The actress briefly touched on other relationships and the realization that she was “unlucky in love” after involving herself with a married man. Additionally, Darren opened up about feeling embarrassed and humiliated following a snub at the recent Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) awards.
Paquito Diaz, renowned for his villainous roles in films like “Isusumbong Kita sa Tatay Ko” and “Ang Panday,” passed away in March 2011 at 78 due to pneumonia complications.
