A Filipino-led engineering team has developed “Parallaxed,” an educational mixed reality program that lets students perform chemistry experiments and study microscopic cells virtually. Led by Engineer Albertson Amante from Batangas State University, this innovation aims to make lab experiences accessible, safe, and cost-effective for students.

The virtual reality software simulates hands-on experiments and allows students to interact with cells in a safe, controlled environment. “There’s a gap in access to laboratories. It can be very expensive or dangerous to perform certain experiments, so we created something virtual,” Amante explained.

Developed in 2023 with support from the Department of Science and Technology’s Technology Application and Promotion Institute, the software utilizes a team of VR and 3D design experts, along with subject matter specialists. In addition to “Parallaxed,” Amante’s team previously created “Mr. Tour Guide,” a virtual tour of Batangas City’s heritage sites.
