A remarkable gesture of gratitude took place recently when the South Korean Army handed over a remodeled house to Sgt. Florendo Benedicto (Ret.), a veteran of the Philippine Expeditionary Force in Korea (PEFTOK).

Now in his 90s, Sgt. Benedicto—who fought in major conflicts like the Battle of Yultong—received the upgraded home in Calamba, Laguna. The event was attended by both Filipino and Korean officials, highlighting the ongoing friendship and mutual respect between the two nations.

Why It Matters:

  • The renovation honors the sacrifice and bravery of Filipino soldiers who fought in the Korean War.
  • It strengthens ties between the Philippines and South Korea, showing that the bond forged in war continues through acts of gratitude.
  • For veterans like Sgt. Benedicto, these gestures are more than symbolic—they represent recognition of their service and provide a meaningful legacy for their families.
