A former Bureau of Customs officer testified at a congressional hearing that he was informed the 2018 multi-billion-peso shabu shipment belonged to Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte, Vice President Sara Duterte’s husband Mans Carpio, and former presidential adviser Michael Yang.
The officer, Jimmy Guban, who is currently detained for his involvement in the case, stated that a lower-ranking Customs official assured him the shipment was owned by these prominent figures. The shabu was allegedly concealed inside magnetic lifters.
GMA News Online is awaiting responses from Duterte and Carpio. Meanwhile, Michael Yang’s lawyer dismissed the accusations as hearsay, noting that Yang’s name does not appear on any shipping documents, and he is not listed as the consignee.
Guban also mentioned that the registered owners of Vecaba Trading, the listed consignee, were merely fronting for others, indicating a deeper level of involvement.
