Gwendolyne Fourniol, representing the Philippines, made a striking impression at the Miss World opening ceremony with a national costume that beautifully embodies Filipino culture and craftsmanship. The Filipina beauty queen shared insights into her costume on Instagram, revealing it as a tribute to the Filipina’s spirit of dignity, growth, and joy. Designed by the talented Filipino fashion designer Louis Pangan, the attire features meticulous hand-embroidery and embellishments that draw inspiration from the authentic Ilonggo textiles of the Hiligaynon people.

Complementing the ensemble is a majestic metal crown headpiece, alongside a golden back dress shaped like sun rays, evoking the essence of a golden goddess. The outfit is further adorned with two large, palm bouquet-inspired accessories made from patterned faux feathers. A significant highlight of the costume is its bodice silhouette, which integrates the traditional Indian Ikat print, elaborately decorated with a vibrant mix of glass beads, Swarovski crystals, and sequins. This intricate detail involves a complex process of tying and dyeing yarn sections before weaving, showcasing an impressive blend of cultural influences and artisanal skill.

Fourniol’s journey to the Miss World stage in India was fueled by her passion for representing her homeland and its rich cultural heritage. Before departing for the competition, she rallied for support in the Multimedia Award challenge, demonstrating her dedication to excelling in all aspects of the pageant. Having secured the Miss World Philippines crown in 2022, Fourniol’s participation in the 71st Miss World Festival, which runs from February 18 to March 9, marks a significant moment in her career and a proud occasion for the Philippines.
