The Department of Health (DOH) reported that five individuals have died in road traffic incidents during the holiday season, with three fatalities resulting from motorcycle crashes.
From December 22 to date, 39 additional road accidents were recorded, bringing the total to 457 incidents. Motorcycles were involved in 322 cases, making them the leading cause of road accidents during this period.
The DOH also revealed that 393 individuals in these incidents were not wearing safety gear, and 76 cases involved drivers under the influence of alcohol.
DOH Safety Recommendations
To help prevent further incidents, the DOH urged the public to follow these road safety measures:
- Wear safety gear: Helmets for motorcycle riders and seat belts for car passengers.
- Avoid alcohol: Never drive under the influence of alcohol.
- Follow traffic laws: Adhere to speed limits and road signs.
- Rest before driving: Get 7 to 8 hours of sleep before traveling.
