MAYNILA – Nitong Lunes, Nobyembre 7, sa pamamagitan ng pag-adopt ng House Resolution No. 489, ipinahayag ng House of Representatives ang pagkondena nito sa pagpatay sa beteranong brodkaster na si Percival “Percy Lapid” Mabasa.
Nakasaad sa resolusyong ipinagtibay ng HOR sa plenary session ang alalahanin sa kaligtasan ng mga mamamahayag sa bansa.
“Local and international journalists were outraged and deeply saddened by the killing of Mr. Percival ‘Percy Lapid’ C. Mabasa, and they considered this dastardly act as an attack to the freedom of speech and of the press that must be stopped in order to save and maintain democracy,” saad ng nasabing resolusyon.
“Now, therefore, be it resolved by the House of Representatives, to condemn in the strongest possible terms, the senseless killing of veteran broadcaster Percival ‘Percy Lapid’ C. Mabasa and to express grave concern for the safety and security of journalists in the country,” dagdag pa ng HR No. 489.
Inihain ang nasabing hakbang noong ika-20 ng Oktubre, na isinulat nina Speaker Martin Romualdez, Majority Leader Mannix Dalipe, at House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan.
Matatandaang pinagbabaril si Lapid sa Las Piñas City ng mga suspek na sakay ng motorsiklo noong Oktubre 3.
Ilang mga grupo, personalidad, politiko at mga kawani ng gobyerno ang mga nagkondena rin sa pagpatay sa nasabing mamamahayag.
