MAYNILA – Kinondena ng University of the Philippines Los Baños Inter-Fraternity Council (UPLB IFC) ang hazing, base sa inilabas na pahayag nito.

Ang naturang pahayag ng mga kapatiran ay kaugnay ng pagkamatay ni John Matthew Salilig, ang Adamson University student na nasawi matapos ang kanyang sinapit sa hazing.

“On February 18, 2023, John Matthew Salilig, a junior Chemical Engineering student at Adamson University, went missing after informing his brother that he would attend the welcoming rites of the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity – Adamson University Chapter. Salilig had gone missing for over a week and was found dead on February 28, 2023, at the Jade Residences Subdivision in Barangay Malagasang, Imus, Cavite,” saad nito sa pahayag ng pagkakaisa ng UPLB IFC na inilabas ng UPLB Perspective.

“A member of fraternity led police investigators to the location where Salilig’s body was buried, revealing that he had endured at least 70 hits to his body. The National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police continue to investigate the incident,” dagdag pa nito.

Sa naturang pahayag, mariing kinondena ng UPLB IFC ang lahat ng mga uri ng karahasan kaugnay ang kapatiran.

“The University of the Philippines Los Baños Inter-Fraternity Council (UPLB IFC) vehemently condemns all forms of fraternity-related violence and calls for all fraternities, sororities, and organizations to reject the tradition of hazing, not only in the accordance with the Republic Act No. 11053 or the Anti-Hazing Law, but in respect for basic human rights,” anang UPLB IFC sa pahayag.

Ipinanawagan din ng UPLB IFC sa mga awtoridad ang mabilis at matinding pagkilos laban sa mga salarin sa krimen.

Siyam na kapatiran ang lumagda sa pahayag ng pagkakaisa, kabilang ang Tau Alpha, Beta Nu Epsilon, Beta Sigma, Demolay Club, Epsilon Chi, Society of Men, Sigma Rho at Zeta Beta Rho.
