MANILA, Philippines – An official from Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said on Wednesday, March 15, that the series of earthquakes that jolted Davao de Oro for two (2) consecutive days has topped a total of P226 million.
According to PDRRMO Head Joseph Randy Loy, the said recorded amount of damage to infrastructure was based on the initial rapid damage assessment and needs analysis report.
There were also 229,647 families or 194,057 households affected from the series of quakes in the province, and Loy said thousands of them were still in the evacuation centers. However, as of yesterday, some of the evacuees went back to their home.
“As of yesterday may iilan na po nakauwi ng kanilang bahay and it has been already trimmed down–from 5,799,” he said.
“As of kahapon 4 p.m., meron na lang po tayo higit 4,000 na pamilya na nasa evacuation centers,” he added.
The entire province of Davao de Oro has been placed under a state of calamity after its impact to the hundreds of houses last week.
According to Vice Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy, the declaration of Davao de Oro under state of calamity would enable the release of funds for the urgent needs and recovery efforts for the affected families.
