The Presidential Communications Office has confirmed Jonvic Remulla’s appointment as the new Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). He is set to take his oath before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday.
Remulla, formerly the Governor of Cavite, steps into the role following Benhur Abalos’ resignation to pursue a Senate seat in the upcoming 2025 elections. With nearly 30 years of political experience, Remulla began as a board member in Cavite’s Second District and later served three terms as vice governor.
During his tenure as governor, Remulla focused on enhancing public health services, providing quality education, building socialized housing, and promoting disaster resilience in Cavite. He studied at De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University before earning a Philosophy degree from the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
Following Remulla’s departure from Cavite, Vice Governor Athena Bryana Delgado Tolentino has been sworn in as the province’s new governor. At 26, Tolentino is one of the youngest to hold the position and is the first female governor in Cavite’s history. She is committed to continuing Remulla’s initiatives and is a former Tagaytay City councilor, as well as a niece of Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino.
