Despite the advancements in technology, being apart from loved ones, especially those working abroad, remains a challenge for many. Kara David, an award-winning journalist and professor, is no stranger to this, as her husband, LM Cancio, is a seafarer.
In an interview with GMA Pinoy TV, Kara opened up about the emotional toll of their long-distance relationship. “It’s really sad, especially when we end a phone call. My husband will say he misses me, and I’ll tell him to be patient, we’ll see each other soon,” she shared.
While the internet has made communication easier, Kara acknowledged that nothing compares to being physically together. “Every day, we talk thanks to the internet, but it’s different when you can actually hold and see your spouse,” she said.
Kara also emphasized the importance of appreciating the hard work of overseas workers. She expressed that when her husband returns home, she ensures he feels loved and valued for his sacrifices. “Let’s not think money is easy to earn abroad. Our loved ones work hard for it, so we should invest it wisely,” she advised.
Kara and LM married in 2018, and despite the distance, she remains confident in their relationship, even joking that her husband is an exception to the stereotype of “sea-manloloko.”
