Twenty-six students were injured, three seriously, after a hanging bridge collapsed in Alfonso Castaneda, Nueva Vizcaya, on Thursday. According to a 24 Oras report, the students were crossing the bridge on their way to a school hosting their intramurals when the structure gave way.
The collapse occurred because the bridge could not bear the combined weight of 91 students and 7 teachers. The victims fell about 10 feet into the river below.
Local residents quickly responded to rescue the victims, who were then provided medical attention.
