The Houston Rockets are set to land NBA superstar Kevin Durant in a major trade with the Phoenix Suns, according to an ESPN report on Sunday.
The deal sends Durant to Houston in exchange for guard Jalen Green, forward Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and five second-round selections. The trade will become official on July 6, the start of the NBA’s new league year, at which point Durant can also sign a two-year extension worth up to $122 million.
Durant, who has one year left on his current contract and is expected to earn $54.7 million next season, will bolster a Rockets squad that finished second in the Western Conference. He joins rising stars Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, and veteran Fred VanVleet.
Despite turning 37 in September, Durant remains one of the league’s elite. In the 2024-25 season, he appeared in 62 games, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game, while shooting an impressive 43% from beyond the arc.
Durant, a 15-time All-Star and six-time All-NBA First Team selection, has played 1,123 games across stints with the SuperSonics/Thunder, Warriors, Nets, and Suns. His career averages include 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game.
In return, Phoenix gains two productive starters. Jalen Green, 23, averaged 21.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists across all 82 games this season. He now teams up with All-Star Devin Booker in the Suns’ backcourt.
Dillon Brooks, 29, added 14.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists this season. Over his career, he’s averaged 14.2 points, appearing in nearly 500 games for the Grizzlies and Rockets.
