Some members of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) have allegedly used laser devices to target helicopters belonging to the Philippine National Police (PNP) amid ongoing operations to locate their leader, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, according to the Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11).
In a statement shared on Facebook on Thursday evening, PRO 11 spokesperson Police Major Catherine dela Rey condemned the actions of the KOJC members, labeling them as “dangerous.”
“The PNP strongly condemns the recent actions of KOJC members who have been using laser devices against PNP helicopters,” said Dela Rey. “Such behavior poses a direct threat to the safety and operational effectiveness of our law enforcement aviation units. The use of lasers against aircraft is not only dangerous but also a blatant violation of aviation safety regulations and legal standards.”
Dela Rey urged KOJC members to cease these actions to ensure the safety of all parties involved, emphasizing that the PNP is simply fulfilling its duty.
KOJC Responds Amid Tensions
While the KOJC has yet to issue a statement in response to the allegations, tensions remain high. Meanwhile, PRO 11 reported that 29 KOJC members are facing complaints after 60 police officers were injured while serving arrest warrants against Quiboloy. The charges against the members include obstruction of justice and direct assault.
The situation further escalated on Thursday when authorities discovered what they described as “secret hallways” within the KOJC compound cathedral. However, a KOJC minister refuted this claim, explaining that the passageway merely connects the backstage to the main stage.
Legal Troubles Continue for Quiboloy
Pastor Apollo Quiboloy has been in hiding since an arrest order was issued against him by the Senate for failing to appear at hearings. Courts in Davao and Pasig have also issued arrest warrants against him and others for alleged violations of the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act, as well as qualified human trafficking.
Additionally, Quiboloy has been indicted by a federal grand jury in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on charges including conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, fraud, and coercion, sex trafficking of children, and bulk cash smuggling. Despite these accusations, Quiboloy’s camp has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
