Residents of Barangay Ara-al and San Miguel in La Carlota City have been advised to store water following lahar flow caused by rainfall on Kanlaon Volcano. This advisory aims to ensure the availability of clean water should the lahar flow continue and affect the water supply in the coming days.
Advisory and Precautions
In a statement released on Thursday, the La Carlota City Water District emphasized the importance of preparing for potential disruptions. “This is to ensure the availability of clean water to be used in case of continuous lahar flow that may possibly affect the water supply in the days thereafter,” the advisory read. Technical personnel from the water district are currently monitoring the spring source to ensure uninterrupted and potable water provision in the affected areas.
Effects of Rainfall on Kanlaon Volcano
Rainfall on Wednesday triggered lahar flow from the volcano, causing the water from the Baji-Baji, Busay Oro, Mayor, and Abaga waterfalls to turn gray. Barangays Ara-al and Yubo in La Carlota City are among the areas within Kanlaon Volcano’s 4-kilometer permanent danger zone.
State of Calamity
The recent eruption of Kanlaon Volcano on June 3 has led to the declaration of a state of calamity in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, and La Castellana, Negros Occidental, due to the significant impact on these areas.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and follow official advisories to ensure their safety and preparedness amid the ongoing volcanic activity.
