MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Diorella Maria “Lala” Sotto-Antonio has tendered her courtesy resignation as Chair and CEO of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s call for a Cabinet overhaul.
In her resignation letter dated May 23, Sotto-Antonio stated that her resignation would take effect upon the President’s acceptance or at his discretion. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the MTRCB and contribute to the administration’s nation-building goals.
“It has been a profound honor to serve in your administration,” she wrote, citing her role in ensuring responsible media content for the Filipino public.
Appointed in July 2022, Sotto-Antonio brought experience from both public service as a Quezon City councilor and her background in entertainment. She is the daughter of Senator Tito Sotto, who recently won a Senate seat and is reportedly eyeing the Senate presidency.
Her resignation comes amid a wider government shakeup initiated by President Marcos, who called on Cabinet secretaries to step down to allow a reevaluation of their performance and alignment with the administration’s new priorities following Eleksyon 2025.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed that 52 officials had submitted their courtesy resignations as of Friday.
The MTRCB, operating under the Office of the President, is tasked with regulating media content in line with national standards and public welfare, as mandated by Presidential Decree 1986.
