The legal counsel for former congressman Zaldy Co has revealed that Co declared a net worth of ₱4.1 billion in 2019, the year he entered the House of Representatives, and claims his wealth already reached about ₱5 billion following subsequent growth.

Attorney Ruy Rondain stated that this wealth “came in before my client ever made it to Congress,” implying that the bulk of Co’s assets were accumulated prior to his public office.

Despite this claim, Co is currently under investigation for alleged involvement in anomalous flood-control projects linked to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) and potential budget insertions. The ICI has recommended that the Office of the Ombudsman file criminal and administrative charges against Co for his alleged role in a ₱289 million flood-control contract in Oriental Mindoro.

Co, who resigned from his seat in the House in September 2025, has denied involvement in the accusations and cited threats to his life as part of his reason for staying abroad.
