The death of former One Direction star Liam Payne has been officially ruled as “polytrauma,” a condition involving severe multiple injuries, according to a UK inquest reported by the BBC.

The coroner, Dr. Roberto Victor Cohen, confirmed Payne’s medical cause of death during the inquest. Senior Coroner Crispin Butler noted that further investigations into the circumstances of Payne’s death in Argentina remain ongoing. These inquiries may take time as they involve formal communications with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office.

Details of the Tragic Incident

Payne passed away in Buenos Aires in October 2024 after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel. The post-mortem examination revealed that he suffered “multiple trauma” and both internal and external hemorrhaging due to the fall.

Toxicology tests conducted by Argentine authorities showed traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in Payne’s system. Investigators concluded that Payne was unaware of his actions at the time of the fall.

Legal Proceedings

Five individuals, including the hotel manager, have been charged in connection with Payne’s death. The ongoing legal process in Argentina is focused on determining the circumstances leading to the tragic event.
