The Philippine government has taken down around 7,000 unauthorized online gaming websites as part of its ongoing crackdown on illegal gambling and efforts to address gaming addiction, Malacañang announced Thursday.
During a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized the persistent problem of illicit gaming platforms that continue to resurface under new domain names even after being shut down.
“The challenge is that these illegal websites keep re-emerging under different names after being taken down,” Castro said.
She noted that even licensed platforms can pose risks, particularly with addictive games, but reassured the public that the government is actively working on preventive measures.
“The government is not ignoring this issue. Authorities are working continuously to address and control the spread of these platforms,” she added.
