President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. arrived in Jakarta on Saturday evening to attend the inauguration of Indonesia’s President-elect Prabowo Subianto, scheduled for Sunday. Marcos was welcomed by Indonesia’s Minister of Home Affairs, General (Ret.) Muhammad Tito Karnavian, at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), over 30 state leaders and representatives, including First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, will attend the ceremony. The event marks a milestone in the Philippines-Indonesia relationship, as both nations celebrate 75 years of diplomatic ties.

Marcos and Prabowo previously met in Manila in September, strengthening ties between the two neighboring countries. Prabowo, a former military general and Indonesia’s defense minister, won the February 2024 presidential election by a wide margin. His inauguration is secured by a significant deployment of security forces, including snipers, anti-riot units, and four F-16 jets guarding foreign dignitaries’ aircraft.
